Royal Alfred Marina

Situated on what was once called ‘The Flats’, the construction of the Royal Alfred Marina is depicted in a display of photographs showing step-by-step how it was developed from its beginning in October 1987 to its completion in 1989.

Alongside this display are photos of the growth of the Marina through the intervening years, as well as old pictures of what was there before: the swimming pavilion, lagoon, yachts, cricket field and camping ground.

The brainchild of Justin de Wet Steyn, Keith Wilmot and Jannie van der Vuyver, it is arguably the most successful marina in the country and responsible for bringing much-needed capital to the area.
